Fullerton : Plummer Auditorium May Get a Facelift

Share

In 1967, Fullerton High School’s Plummer Auditorium was closed down for fear it would be unsafe during an earthquake.

More than four years and about $600,000 later, the auditorium reopened with a new foundation, a coat of paint and an array of other refurbishments.

Tuesday, City Council members will consider forming a task force that would study whether the auditorium at Chapman Avenue and Lemon Street should receive yet another facelift.

The auditorium, used by community groups such as the Fullerton Civic Light Opera, could use an air-conditioning system, a refurbished lobby and a stage orchestra platform that can be raised and lowered, among other things, City Manager Bill Winter said.

The proposed improvements tally about $1.5 million, Winter said.

If formed, the task force would have a similar role to that of the North Orange County Museum task force, which recently made recommendations to the council for the museum, located in Fullerton.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 303 West Commonwealth Ave.
