A speeding sports car crashed into a tree and broke in half in the 23400 block of Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills, seriously injuring the young driver and his passenger. The two 16-year-old boys were found lying on the center divider of the road about 30 feet from the spot where their car slammed into a fir tree. They were taken by helicopter to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where the passenger was reported in critical condition from internal injuries and the driver, who was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving, was treated for multiple broken bones. Police said the force of the crash cut the car’s chassis in two just behind the front seats, and the two halves of the Mazda RX-7 were on opposite sides of the road.
