Police charged 11 people with simple assault in a fight that broke out Saturday at Three Rivers Stadium during the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants when guards tried to eject a group of rowdy fans.

Two security guards and three fans were treated for minor injuries at Allegheny General Hospital, police said.

The 11 were also charged with defiant trespass and disorderly conduct.

Stadium security director Robert Leister said the brawl erupted when security guards tried to eject a group of people who were throwing beer and peanuts on other spectators.

Former Dodger utility player Derrel Thomas has been sued for more than $50,000 by a man who claims his right leg was crushed while he was working on the player’s car at the home of Thomas’ parents in Los Angeles.

Eddie Lee Powell, a 42-year-old disabled former trash collector, claimed in his Superior Court suit that he was injured May 15 while replacing the battery in a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro belonging to Thomas, who now plays for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Powell claimed that while he was replacing the battery, Thomas’ 15-year-old son, Derrel Thomas Jr., started the car while it still was in gear. Powell said the car lurched forward and pinned his leg against a patio wall.
