3-FLAG SALUTE FOR PERSHING SQUARE

Share

As part of the revitalization of Pershing Square, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) will present “LACE Salutes Pershing Square” today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the downtown square.

Flags designed by artists Patssi Valdez, Fred Tomaselli and Constance Mallinson will be raised at 6 p.m., accompanied by a musical fanfare by Carl Stone.

The event launches a three-month exhibition of nine flags made by Los Angeles artists. Two more flag-raising ceremonies are scheduled at one-month intervals, at each of which three new flags will be presented, accompanied by original compositions written and performed by prominent contemporary composers.

“The purpose of the exhibition,” said Jeff Mann, exhibitions coordinator, “is to get artists aware and involved, to help change the image of the park. We are trying to bring a little culture to the park.”
