Emard Resigns as SCC Baseball Coach
Richard Emard, who coached the Southern California College baseball team to its only NAIA World Series appearance this past season, has resigned.
Emard compiled a 92-59-3 record with the Vanguards and won two NAIA District 3 championships. In 1983, Emard took over a team that had gone 5-40 the previous season and recorded a 19-20-1 mark. In 1984, SCC finished 28-19 and last year went 45-20-2, winning district titles both years.
During a 1 1/2-week period this past season, the Vanguards defeated NCAA Division 1 schools USC, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. SCC went on to finish fourth at the NAIA World Series at Lewiston, Ida.
Emard, 39, was the junior varsity baseball coach at Cerritos High School before coming to SCC. He still teaches drivers education at Cerritos. Emard had played professionally in the Baltimore Orioles’ organization.
There are no leading candidates to replace Emard.
