Freeway Episode

Another freeway episode worth reporting:

On a busy Monday morning, driving with a friend on the Ventura Freeway, smoke began pouring from the air vents on my dashboard. Pulling to the right shoulder, we coasted to a roadside phone, only to find after many minutes that it was “dead.” With great caution, we drove on to the next phone and received a prompt response, connection to the Auto Club, and a message relayed to the party at our destination.

And then came the payoff--four separate motorists, seeing two ladies stranded, stopped to offer assistance. The first man disconnected the battery cable to prevent a fire, and two other men and a young lady all pulled off in busy traffic to offer help.

A motorcycle officer and the tow truck pulled up together after about an hour--and we were soon on our way safely, but the memory of those caring people will never be forgotten.
