Huntington Beach : Proposal Accepted for 6th Redevelopment Area

Share

A proposal to establish a sixth redevelopment area on Beach Boulevard received City Council approval Tuesday, and a consultant will be selected next month to draw up a specific plan.

The selection will probably be made at the Sept. 3 meeting, said Stephen Kohler, senior community development specialist. He said the city will review all development proposals and funding alternatives. A redevelopment area could be established in about 10 months.

The council voted 6 to 1 to proceed with the plan, with Councilman Bob Mandic dissenting. Mandic said he believes that the city should see some results from its other five redevelopment areas before setting up new ones.

“We’ve got an awful lot of land in redevelopment, and we haven’t got a lot of projects off the ground,” he said. “Obviously, there are six people for it right now, so maybe I’m just whistling in the wind. I may continue whistling.”
