Local News in Brief : 2 Teen-Agers Arrested in Thousand Oaks Fire
Two Westlake-area teen-agers, suspected of starting a 60-acre brush fire in Thousand Oaks last week, were arrested Monday by Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies.
The two boys, whose names were withheld, were released to the custody of their parents, Detective Edward Wyand said.
Wyand said the pair, 15 and 17 years old, were arrested on suspicion of reckless burning, not arson. They apparently set off the fire inadvertently, he said, when they fired model rockets in a schoolyard near where the blaze began on the corner of Westlake Boulevard and Potrero Road.
Investigators found one rocket in the burned area. The fire caused no injuries or structural damages.
