Carbon Canyon Brush Fire Burns Additional 150 Acres

A brush fire in the Carbon Canyon area of Brea, thought to be under control “flared up a little bit” Monday near Soquel Canyon and Gilman Truck Road, burning an additional 150 acres.

The two-day total is now 950 acres, according to Lou Furst, Orange County Fire Department spokesman.

“While burning-out operations were under way,” Furst said, “the fire spotted across the control line in the two locations.”

The causes of the fire’s spread, he said, were the “rugged terrain, vegetation and afternoon winds.” Firefighters were “planning an aggressive attack throughout the night,” Furst said.

Seventeen additional firefighting vehicles and five aircraft were sent to the area to bring the blaze under control.

Two of the engines were designed for “structure protection,” Furst said, but as of Monday night, no buildings were threatened.
