Trainer Wayne Lukas’ Sovereign Don moved into the lead at the eighth pole and won by a neck in the $90,000 Sanford Stakes, a six-furlong race for 2-year-olds, giving jockey Jorge Velasquez his fourth win in five rides on Saratoga’s card.
Sovereign Don won $54,000 for owner Eugene Klein and paid $13.20, $4.20 and $2.40.
