ROCK ISLAND, Wash. —
Fifteen cars of a 37-car freight train derailed on a Columbia River bridge Tuesday and sparked a fire that warped the 900-foot steel span and threatened to collapse it.
Fire crews were able to douse the blaze after more than six hours of pouring water on it from a fireboat and a helicopter. The cause of the derailment had not been determined. There were no injuries.
