Lonnie Smith knocked down Billy Costello five times in their bout at New York’s Madison Square Garden, and took away his World Boxing Council super-lightweight championship with an eighth-round knockout. After the fight, Costello announced his retirement.
Earlier, Wilfred Benitez, a former triple world champion, get up from a first-round knockdown to give previously unbeaten Kevin Moley a boxing lesson and win a unanimous 10-round decision in a middleweight fight.
