Gov. George Deukmejian appointed Jananne Sharpless, 40, to the vacant post of secretary of environmental affairs. She replaces Gordon Duffy, who recently left the $83,388-a-year position to become a lobbyist. Sharpless, who will also serve as head of the state Air Resources Board, has served as Duffy’s chief deputy for the last two years. Before joining the Deukmejian Administration, she worked as a legislative consultant on hazardous waste matters.
