A fire blamed on an electrical malfunction caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to an El Cajon Boulevard motel Sunday afternoon, the San Diego Fire Department reported.
The fire broke out at the Broadview Motel in the 6100 block shortly before 12:45 p.m. and quickly spread through the attic of the 11-room, single-story structure.
No motel residents were injured, officials said. It took nearly 100 firefighters from San Diego, La Mesa and Lemon Grove until almost 2 p.m. to bring the blaze under control.
