Perez Brothers Score KOs in Marriott Fights
The Perez brothers of Santa Ana each won their scheduled 10-round main events at the Irvine Marriott Monday night.
Irleis (Cubanito) Perez improved his record to 30-1 by stopping Paul Barton of Portland, Ore., on a technical knockout at 1:20 of the sixth round.
Perez controlled the match throughout, deflecting many of Barton’s wilder blows while scoring at will through the first five rounds.
The referee stopped the fight in the sixth after the ring doctor examined Barton and found the wound over his right eye bleeding too much for Barton to continue.
Cubanito’s younger brother Tomas, meanwhile, knocked out Clinton Reymus of Sparks, Nev., at 0:53 of the third round.
On the undercard, Joe Ruelas of Westminster knocked out Jesus Lozano of Mexico at 2:22 of the second right.
Monday’s card was fought in front of 1,527 including former welterweight champion Carlos Palomino.
