Fired Policewoman Arrested in Killing

A woman who was fired for misconduct as a Los Angeles police officer last December has been arrested in the slaying of a man several days before her termination, the Police Department reported Tuesday.

Department officials said there was no apparent connection between the firing of Patricia Lockhart, 26, last Dec. 27, and the fatal shooting of Randy Carey 13 days earlier in a grocery store parking lot.

Lockhart was arrested last Friday at the Lennox home of her parents, according to Wilshire Division Capt. L. R. Bivens, and is being held without bail at Sybil Brand Institute. Officers reportedly will seek a murder complaint from the district attorney’s office today.

Bivens said detectives did not find out until about two weeks ago that Lockhart allegedly was involved in the death of Carey, 38. He was found fatally wounded in a parking lot at 18th Street and Manhattan Place on Dec. 14 after neighborhood residents heard shooting.

Lockhart, who had been on the force about a year and was assigned to Southwest Division, was accused by police of shooting Carey from her car while off duty.
