California labor officials announced that they found violations of child-labor laws and state and federal wage laws while probing pay practices of trainers at the Del Mar race track.
James Curry, assistant state Labor Commissioner, said that state and federal officials investigating conditions at Del Mar found at least one employer who did not have workmen’s compensation and that some trainers were paying employees in cash. Curry said cash payments are illegal.
Investigators also found some violations in child labor laws and overtime pay guidelines.
The investigation, which began earlier this week, was prompted by allegations arising from interviews with 123 illegal aliens arrested during a raid by immigration officials at the seaside track Aug. 26.
