Irvine : Architectural Pacts for New City Hall Due Study
Architectural contracts totaling about $2 million for the new civic center will go before the City Council tonight.
Paul Brady, assistant city manager, said two architectural firms, one based in Costa Mesa and the other in Houston, will design the $19-million city hall. Their work will include “anything and everything” from floor plans to interior decorations.
“We’ll try to tie everything together so it’s done all in one project,” Brady said. “Hopefully, we’ll avoid mistakes that others have made by not getting it all done at once.”
The 150,000-square-foot civic center will be built in Irvine’s Westpark area, north of Culver Drive. Construction could start as soon as next June and is scheduled for completion in mid-1988.
