The Region : Brink’s Guard Loses $100,000 to Bandit
A gunman confronted a Brink’s Inc. armored car guard on an escalator at the Beverly Center on Los Angeles’ Westside and escaped with a reported $100,000. Police said the Brinks employee was carrying a money sack from a bank in the shopping center at 3rd Street and La Cienega Boulevard when a gun was jammed into his ribs from behind. Detective Jim Grayson said a Beverly Center plainclothes security officer attempted to capture the thief but failed. Police said the man apparently carried the money away in a red shopping bag bearing the words Florida State. He was last seen just west of the shopping center when he reportedly attempted to commandeer a woman’s car.
