Sonora High School scored two second-quarter touchdowns against Dana Hills and held on for a 14-7 nonleague victory in La Habra Stadium Friday night.

Dana Hills took the early lead on Keith Coley’s three-yard run in the first quarter.

Sonora, held to just 35 yards total offense in the first quarter, tied the score on quarterback Ron Lesperance’s five-yard keeper midway through the second quarter. The Raiders then took the lead with 1:12 left in the half when Duane Bell scooped up a blocked punt on the Dolphin six-yard line and carried it into the end zone.

Dana Hills had two scoring opportunities in the second half but failed to capitalize on either. In the third quarter, the Dolphins drove to the Raider 19-yard line, but missed a 37-yard field-goal attempt.

Then in the fourth quarter, Dana Hills missed scoring again when a pass by John Micalizzi just slipped past the fingers of Bob Wyant. The Raider defense stopped the Dolphins with time running out when defensive back Jay Johnson intercepted a Micalizzi pass on the Raider 35-yard line.
