JC FOOTBALL ROUNDUP
Moorpark 31, Harbor 3
Wide receiver Paul Davis threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Dan Russell on Moorpark College’s first play and the Raiders never looked back.
Russell, who finished with 9 receptions for 198 yards, also caught touchdown passes of 9 and 32 yards from Ken Lutz to help make the dedication of Moorpark’s stadium a success.
Lutz, like Davis and Russell, a graduate of Royal High, completed 8 of 12 passes for 176 yards. Kevin Greene had a 51-yard field goal. Harbor’s only points came on a 27-yard field goal by Vince Andrie with 5:28 left in the first quarter.
Valley 20, Rio Hondo 14
Turnovers and penalties held both teams scoreless until an interception by defensive back Chris Truitt put Valley in scoring position late in the first quarter.
A 15-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Andy Ramos to wide receiver John Jake followed to put Valley on the board.
Ramos and Jake connected again in the second quarter from four yards out to stretch the Valley lead to 14-0.
The Roadrunners countered with two touchdowns of their own, tying the score at the half, 14-14.
The Monarchs shut out the Rio Hondo offense in the second half while Harry Konstantinopoulos kicked field goals from 29 and 40 yards.
