Tu of Taiwan Wins Japan LPGA Title
Tu Ai-yu of Taiwan, who led or shared the lead throughout the tournament, shot a 2-under-par 70 Sunday to win the Japan LPGA championship by three shots.
The victory was Tu’s first in the prestigious championship although she has won 57 tournaments in her career.
Tu won $20,800 out of a total purse of $125,000.
Tu ended with a 72-hole total of 284, 4-under par on the 6,330-yard, par-72 Karasuyamajo Country Club course.
She had started the final round tied with Midori Wakaura of Japan but pulled away quickly with birdies on the first and fifth holes.
Chen Li-ying of Taiwan finished in second place at 287. Wakaura was third in a tie with Ku Ok-hee of South Korea at 288.
