A 7-year-old Canoga Park boy was killed Tuesday when a motorist driving through an alley in Winnetka struck him while he was riding his bicycle, Los Angeles police reported.
The boy, Michael Moriana, was riding at 3 p.m. with his brother and a friend on a walkway that crosses an alley near the intersection of Saticoy Street and Corbin Avenue, police said.
The motorist, Gary Scott Smith, 30, of Canoga Park, was driving south through the alley and could not brake in time as Moriana crossed the alley, Officer Cathy Pett said.
Moriana, who was a student at Melvin Avenue Elementary School in Reseda, died shortly afterward at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
