Tennis Roundup : Lendl Defeats McEnroe in Meadowlands Final
Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia survived three set points to defeat John McEnroe, 7-5, 6-4, Wednesday night.
The victory gave Lendl the championship of the four-player Meadowlands Tennis Challenge at East Rutherford, N.J. It was their first meeting since Lendl dethroned McEnroe in the U.S. Open.
Jimmy Connors won the consolation match, defeating Andres Gomez of Ecuador, 7-5, 6-3.
There was no prize money. Instead, each player earned an undisclosed appearance fee.

Top-seeded Kathy Rinaldi defeated Jane Holdren, 6-0, 6-1, in the third round of a $75,000 Virginia Slims tournament at Indianapolis.
At Tokyo, the United States routed China, 3-0, to breeze into the quarterfinals of Federation Cup competition.
In singles, Kathy Jordan defeated Zhong Ni of China, 6-1, 6-0, and Zina Garrison beat Li Xinyi, 6-0, 6-2. Jordan and Sharon Walsh then defeated Li and Zhong, 6-2, 6-2, to make it a sweep for the United States.
Top-seeded Yannick Noah of France defeated Ricardo Acuna of Chile, 7-6, 6-1, at Toulouse, France, to advance to the second round of a $175,000 Grand Prix tournament.
