Palomar Memorial Hospital has successfully completed a six-month provisional period as a trauma center and should formally be included in the county’s trauma center network, the county’s Department of Health Services has recommended.

The Board of Supervisors will consider the designation Oct. 29.

Gail Cooper, chief of emergency medical services for the county, said a team of evaluators visited the hospital Sept. 23 and found it in compliance with the county’s trauma care standards.

She said the supervisors will be asked to sign a three-year contract with Palomar like those with the county’s other trauma centers--UC San Diego Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla, Sharp Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital for pediatric trauma care.

Cooper said the evaluation team’s specific findings were confidential, but added that “it’s kudos for Palomar.”
