After a high-speed, rush-hour chase involving police cars, a helicopter and a police canine unit, a 15-year-old girl was rescued unharmed Thursday and her alleged abductor arrested.
The Costa Mesa girl, who was not identified because of her age, was taken from the private school she attended in Anaheim at about 3:30 p. m. Wednesday, Anaheim Police Lt. Del Wade said.
On Thursday at about 6:30 p.m., 20-year-old Daniel Andron of Anaheim was seen by police as he was driving at Magnolia Avenue and Broadway in Anaheim. When he saw the police car, Wade said, he sped away, and the officers followed.
After a seven-minute, 90-m.p.h. chase through traffic, the police unit lost sight of Andron, Wade said. But 10 minutes later, Andron, his car and the girl were sighted again at Beach Boulevard and Crescent Avenue in Buena Park. When Andron saw the officers again, Wade said, he took off on foot because his car had broken down.
Andron ran into a heavily landscaped lot at 8572 Stanton Blvd., Wade said. An Anaheim police helicopter kept the area under observation until police dogs arrived and tracked down the suspect.
Andron was booked into Anaheim Jail on suspicion of kidnaping, Wade said. Bail was set at $50,000.
