Fine Spirit Rolls to Victory at Oak Tree

Sandy Hawley held Fine Spirit off the early pace, angled outside the leaders and rolled down the stretch to win the $28,000 feature race Thursday at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting.
Fine Spirit finished 1 1/2 lengths in front of Klondike Kutie, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye. Layout, ridden by Ray Sibille, finished another 3 1/2 lengths back in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares.
Fine Spirit was timed in 1:09 2/5, and the $15,400 winner’s purse increased her earnings to more than $160,000.
Sent off the favorite by 15,693 fans, Fine Spirit paid $3, $2.60 and $2.20; Klondike Kutie returned $8.40 and $4.40, and Layout paid $3 to show.
