UC Irvine Stuns Stanford in Water Polo, 4-3

Junior Mike Doting scored with four minutes remaining Friday to lead the third-ranked UC Irvine water polo team to a 4-3 win over top-ranked Stanford in a nonconference match at Stanford.

The win improved the Anteaters’ record to 9-4. The Indian, which was led by David Imbernino’s two goals, is 11-3. Irvine plays Cal this morning.

Golden West 11, Cypress 4--Jim Zakasky scored three goals and Geoff Gruber and Jason Jefferies had two each as the host Rustlers defeated the Chargers in a South Coast Conference match.

Golden West, the second-ranked team in Southern California, improved its conference record to 2-0 and overall record to 11-2. Ninth-ranked Cypress, which had to forfeit all its wins Wednesday for using an ineligible player, is 0-2 and 0-19.

Rancho Santiago 25, Mount San Antonio 7--Freshman Nick Toscas scored five goals to lead the host Dons to an easy South Coast Conference win. Charles Sommer had four goals and Darin Haskins added three for Rancho Santiago (2-0, 13-1). Haskins also had four saves when he replaced starting goalkeeper Steve Redding in the fourth quarter.
