Robbie Bosco threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as 11th-ranked Brigham Young rolled over San Diego State, 28-0, in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday at Provo, Utah.

Bosco thrilled a Homecoming crowd of 65,407 by throwing touchdown passes of 13 and 20 yards and completing 25 of 37 attempts for 257 yards as the Cougars boosted their season record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the WAC.

Much like the previous week when Bosco completed 38 passes, mostly for short yardage, the senior from Roseville, Calif., was content to throw for short distances. His longest pass was 25 yards.

Bosco, who was intercepted twice, got 203 yards rushing from his backs and converted 10 of 17 third-down situations, several on passes to Trevor Molini, who caught nine passes for 94 yards.

But the game largely failed to live up to its billing as a shootout between Bosco and San Diego State sophomore Todd Santos, the nation’s passing efficiency leader going into the game.

BYU relied on the punishing running of Tom Tuipulotu, who gained 121 yards in 13 carries, and Lakei Heimuli, who had 62 yards in 17 attempts.

While Santos completed 20 of 37 passes for 178 yards and 1 interception, he was able to convert only 4 of 13 third-down plays into first downs.

Hawaii 26, Wyoming 18--At Laramie, Wyo., Nuu Faaola ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns as Hawaii won its first game this season.

In a fourth-quarter comeback, Wyoming scored twice to pull within five points, 23-18, but then roughed the kicker on a missed field-goal attempt with 4:34 to play. The penalty gave Hawaii a first down and led to a 42-yard field goal by Kerry Brady, which clinched the Western Athletic Conference victory.

Hawaii, 1-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the WAC, had little trouble running or passing against Wyoming, 1-5 and 0-3.

Colorado State 45, New Mexico 28--Fullback Steve Bartalo, a walk-on at Colorado State three years ago, rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns at Albuquerque, N.M., and tied the conference single-game record with 47 carries set by New Mexico’s Mike Williams in 1977.

Bartalo, the Rams’ 197-pound battering ram, wore down New Mexico’s defense and scored on three short runs inside the two-yard line.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for CSU, 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the WAC. New Mexico, which has given up 132 points in three straight losses, dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the WAC.
