NHL Roundup : Nordiques Go 4-0 With a 4-1 Victory

Share

Anton Stastny scored twice and assisted on the other two goals Tuesday night at Quebec to lead the Nordiques to a 4-1 victory over the Hartford Whalers.

The unbeaten Nordiques, the first team to win four games in the young season, took over first place in the Adams Division by handing the Whalers their first loss after two victories.

At one time the Quebec Stastnys had their own line. There was older brother Marian, younger brother Anton and the brilliant Peter at center. Marian spent the last part of the 1984-85 season on the bench and signed with Toronto last August.

But Anton and Peter continue to be a powerful combination. After setting up Normand Rochefort and brother Peter for the first two goals, Anton scored the last two, one after getting a pass from Peter.

The play of the Stastnys made it easy for Mario Gosselin to pick up his third victory. Gosselin, who recorded a shutout at Toronto Saturday night, almost had his second in a row. But Jorgen Petterson scored on a power play with just 2:16 remaining in the game.

The Nordiques so dominated the first two periods that Gosselin had to stop only 7 shots in 40 minutes.

Last season, for the first time, Anton had more goals than Peter, 38 to 32. In the first four games this season, he has a 3-2 edge.

Pittsburgh 3, Minnesota 2--The Penguins erupted for three goals in the first 8 1/2 minutes of the third period at Pittsburgh to gain their first victory of the season.

The Penguins trailed, 1-0, but Doug Shedden tied the game just 35 seconds after the start of the final period. John Chabot, with his team short-handed, put the Penguins ahead on a breakaway at 6:11. Former King Terry Ruskowski completed the rally two minutes later with his third goal of the season.
