Vandeweghe Leads Blazer Rout of Clippers

Kiki Vandeweghe scored 25 points, and six other Portland players were in double figures Saturday night as the Trail Blazers routed the Clippers, 139-89, in a National Basketball Assn. exhibition game.

It was the Blazers’ sixth victory in seven exhibition games and their second over the Clippers, who finished their exhibition season at 3-5.

The Blazers broke the game open midway through the second period, scoring nine straight points after the Clippers had tied it, 33-33. Portland rookie Ben Coleman scored six of those nine points and finished with a total of 12.

Portland outscored Los Angeles, 84-48, in the second half.

The Blazers have averaged 128.3 points per game in the exhibition season. Mychal Thompson had 15 points Saturday night, while Steve Colter (14), Jim Paxson (12) and Clyde Drexler (10) joined the rout.

Portland reserve forward Jerome Kersey added 17 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter.

Derek Smith led the Clippers with 20 points, while Jay Murphy had 11, Jamaal Wilkes 14 and Franklin Edwards 13.
