Vandierendonck Wins in Upset
Chantelle Vandierendonck, an unseeded player from the Netherlands, upset No. 1-seed Marilyn Hamilton of Fresno, 6-4, 6-4, Saturday to win the women’s open singles division at the U.S. National Wheelchair Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
In the men’s doubles final, Randy Snow of Dallas and Chip Turner of Carmichael defeated Brad Parks of Laguna Niguel and Rick Slaughter of Nashville, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6.
Competition continues today with the men’s final, matching Parks against Slaughter at 1 p.m. The women’s doubles final starts at noon.
