SAN DIEGO — A San Diego Zoo koala who visited the Milwaukee Zoo in September has died of pneumonia, a zoo spokesman said today.
The 2 1/2-year-old male koala named Ayers was part of a traveling group of koalas that have been lent to other U.S. zoos this year. “We will be reviewing the impact of the travel on the koalas,” zoo spokesman Jeff Jouett said. Ayers underwent euthanasia after going into convulsions. He had not eaten for five days.
