The Million Dollar Golf Challenge will go on in South Africa as scheduled, despite 14 months of rioting by blacks against apartheid. The names of the participants in the tournament will be kept secret until just before the tournament begins to prevent anti-apartheid activists from exerting pressure.

The Challenge was the game’s first million-dollar tournament when it was inaugurated in 1982. It has since attracted 10 top golfers a year to the Sun City golf-and-gambling resort, where the last-place finisher goes home with $50,000.
