The New England Patriots have lost about $6.2 million over the past five years, according to a confidential memo obtained by the Boston Globe.

The 23-page memorandum was distributed by the New York investment banking firm Goldman Sachs & Co. to potential buyers of the team, the newspaper reported. Issued in September, it states that in the five-year period from 1980 to April 30, 1985, the Patriots lost $6,202,000.

The document, based on information from the Patriots and Stadium Management Corp., which operates Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, points out, “The Sullivan family is offering to sell the entire sports complex built around the New England Patriots,” including the National Football League team, the remaining 35-year lease at Sullivan Stadium and the 10-year lease on the harness raceway.
