Reagan Entertains ‘Never-Say-Die’ Kansas City Royals
President Reagan welcomed the world champion Kansas City Royals to the White House today, praising the team for its “never-say-die spirit.”
The Royals, in a Rose Garden ceremony, gave Reagan a blue Royals warm-up jacket, a World Series baseball cap and a bat.
Reagan, donning the cap and gripping the bat like a hitter, quipped: “I am ready and armed.”
As he walked away from the ceremony, the President said, “I can’t wait to get up on (Capitol) Hill.”
“In that Interstate 70 series, the Show Me spirit really came through,” Reagan said. “Your team showed the world and you did it royally.”
The Royals, who defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the seven-game series, went on to a brass-band reception on Capitol Hill.
