Gasoline Spills as Pipeline Ruptures

Share

A 10-inch pipeline carrying gasoline was ruptured Saturday morning in north Clairemont, spilling an estimated 10,000 gallons of fuel before the flow could be shut off, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said.

A machine digging a trench next to the pipeline, at Interstate 805 and Governor Drive, caused the rupture, said Larry Stewart, Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters blocked the trench to contain the spill and sprayed foam on the gasoline to prevent fire, he said.

The gasoline reportedly was being cleaned up Saturday, he said. It was not known when San Diego Pipeline Company, owner of the line, would repair the break.
