Allen, Gowdy, Brickhouse Voted Into Hall

Mel Allen, Curt Gowdy and Jack Brickhouse, three of baseball’s most venerable broadcasters, have been elected to the American Sportscasters Assn. Hall of Fame.

Allen, Gowdy and Brickhouse already have been enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame’s media wing at Cooperstown, N.Y. They join Red Barber, Don Dunphy, Graham McNamee, Red Husing and Bill Stern as ASA Hall of Fame inductees.

Allen was best known for his work as a New York Yankees announcer and Brickhouse was the longtime voice of the Chicago Cubs. Gowdy, who for many years was NBC’s main announcer on baseball and pro football, made his mark as a play-by-play announcer with the Boston Red Sox.
