Led by the hitting of Tita Reydan, Hawaii avenged Friday’s straight-set loss to San Diego State with a three-game sweep Saturday night in Peterson Gym.

The No. 8 Rainbows (21-6, 6-3) beat the No. 17 Aztecs, 15-10, 15-3, 15-9, in front of 745 fans in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match.

Reydan, a sophomore outside hitter, had 18 kills in 25 attempts, with no errors, for an outstanding .720 hitting percentage. As a team, Hawaii had a .478 hitting percentage, compared to .156 for SDSU.

Sally Larsen led SDSU (4-5, 21-13) with eight kills and eight digs. Kris Morton and Liz Ugaitafa added seven kills apiece for the Aztecs.

Hawaii middle blocker Suzanne Eagye, a 1984 graduate of Point Loma High School, said the Rainbows entered the match determined to make up for Friday’s loss.

“Last night after the game, we went back to the hotel, sat in our rooms and got mad,” said Eagye, who had 8 kills, 5 blocks and 13 digs. “We just didn’t want to lose again.”

Eagye scored the final two points for Hawaii in the first game. The Aztecs led, 10-9, before the Rainbows scored six straight. In game two, Hawaii took advantage of several SDSU errors to run off the last eight points.

The Aztecs rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the third game, taking the lead at 8-7 on a dink by Larsen. The Rainbows were soon back in command, however, when a block by Eagye put them ahead, 10-9.
