The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Enterprise struck a reef 100 miles off the coast of San Diego, but there were no injuries or damage to its nuclear generator, the Navy said Sunday.

The vessel was on a training mission when it hit the underwater reef Saturday night, Navy spokesman Lt. Otis Jackson said.

The reef ripped the outer skin of the port side of the ship, he said.

The interior of the ship was not damaged or endangered, and the Navy said there was no damage to the ship’s nuclear generator. An investigation was being conducted to determine the cause of the accident.

The ship is continuing its training mission and will return to Alameda when the exercises are finished, Jackson said.
