Featherweight Kelcie Banks and light-middleweight Kevin Bryant scored first-round victories as the United States sent two boxers to the finals of the fourth World Cup Boxing Championships at Seoul, South Korea.
The Soviet Union, the pre-tournament favorite, also sent two boxers to the finals.
Banks stopped Kenya’s David Ouma in the first round after flooring him twice. Bryant stopped his Korean opponent, Ahn Dal Ho, also in the first round.
In the heavyweight semifinals, Alexandr Jagubkin of the Soviet Union will meet Jimmy Peau of Canada. Jagubkin won a 4-1 decision over favored Michael Bent of the United States, while Peau knocked out Domenic d’Amico of Canada in the third round.
