Encino Man Is Badly Burned in House Fire
An Encino man suffered serious burns to his hands and feet early Tuesday morning while trying to fight a fire that caused about $243,000 damage to his home, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m. as Larry Von Loon, 39, was working in the driveway of his home in the 4700 block of N. White Oak Avenue, spokesman Larry Ford said. About 40 firefighters responded to the fire and had it under control by 4:30 a.m., he said.
Von Loon suffered second-degree burns to his hands and feet and was in stable condition at the Medical Center of Tarzana, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Ford said. The fire started in the garage and spread to the house’s wood-shingled roof.
