Fullerton : Parking Rules Retained Around Fraternity Row

Share

City Council members have voted unanimously to retain the existing parking hours for residents of the Cal State Fullerton Fraternity Row area.

Seven homeowners who live on and around Teri Place appealed to the council to maintain the current parking restrictions between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m., despite a petition signed by 34 of the 79 homeowners in the area requesting shorter parking hours. None of those opposing the current parking law addressed the council Tuesday.

In other business Wednesday, council members approved a recommendation to hire an outside consultant to study an ordinance written in 1976 limiting aircraft that can use the Fullerton Municipal Airport.

The ordinance restricts aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds or more than 1,000 horsepower from using the runway. “We want to bring it (the ordinance) in line with more recent studies . . . in line with other airports in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas,” said Rodney Murphy, airport manager.

Murphy said “significant improvements” have been made in technology that would mean other aircraft can operate safely from the airport. These aircraft, he said, may be quieter than some aircraft now using the facility.

The estimated cost of the study is $3,500 to $4,500, which is available in the airport budget, Murphy said.
