Westminster : Collision With Oversized Truck Injures Motorist
A Santa Ana motorist was in critical condition Tuesday after he failed to stop at a red light and collided with an oversized tractor-trailer rig, Westminster police said.
Eulilao Ayala, 21, suffered head and internal injuries, Police Lt. Mike Schliskey said. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Leo Elston, 53, of La Habra, was treated for minor injuries at Humana Hospital Westminster and released, authorities said.
Schliskey said the accident occurred about 4:45 a.m. as Ayala’s car was northbound on Beach Boulevard. He failed to stop at a red light at Westminster Avenue, and his car collided with Elston’s eastbound rig, which was being accompanied by an escort vehicle in front to make sure the road was passable for the oversized load, Schliskey said. The escort vehicle was not involved in the accident.
The accident is under investigation, police said.
