Volleyball Roundup : Long Beach Tops Fullerton to Even PCAA Record

Junior blocker Stacy Peoples had 19 kills to lead Cal State Long Beach to a 3-0 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night at Long Beach.

The 49ers, ranked 20th in the NCAA poll, won, 15-7, 15-11, 15-7. Long Beach also was paced by senior setter LeValley Pattison, who had 53 assists and 12 digs.

Fullerton’s Janet Kretschmar, a sophomore hitter, had 10 kills and 6 digs.

Long Beach is 7-7 in PCAA play and 15-10 overall. Fullerton is 1-13, 9-23.

In other PCAA action;

UC Irvine 3, Loyola-Maramount 1--The Anteaters downed the Lions, 12-15, 15-9, 15-6, 15-12, in a nonconference match. UCI was led by senior Cindy Rohrig, who had 16 kills, and freshman Kris Roberts, who had 11. Sophomore setter Ann Warmus keyed the Anteater attack with 46 assists. UCI 6-15.

In South Coast Conference action:

Orange Coast College 3, Rancho Santiago 0--The Pirates, behind Jennifer Deiley and Barbara Bally, easily beat the Dons, 15-13, 15-5, 15-3. Deiley had 7 kills and Bally 6 and 5 blocks for the Pirates, who are 9-3 in conference, 11-4 overall and ranked ninth in the state. Lana Friedman had seven kills for Rancho Santiago. Anne Oberschlake added 3 service aces for the Dons (5-6, 5-7). OCC plays host to Cerritos Friday, which determines the SCC’s second-place representative to the Southern California Regional tournament.
