Bowling Green Stays Unbeaten, Earns Berth in California Bowl
Brian McClure threw for 143 yards and a touchdown en route to breaking the NCAA Division I record for career pass attempts Saturday to help Bowling Green clinch the Mid-American Conference championship with a 21-0 victory over Toledo.
McClure completed 11 of 20 passes, giving him 1,378 attempts to break the record of Duke’s Ben Bennett (1,375). McClure has 9,801 career passing yards, second behind Boston College’s Doug Flutie (10,579), with one regular-season game left.
The conference championship earns Bowling Green a trip to the California Bowl at Fresno. It was the eighth conference title for the Falcons (10-0 and 8-0).
McClure fired a 29-yard touchdown pass to Stan Hunter in the first quarter to put the Falcons ahead, 7-0.
