United Press International filed a protest with NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle, saying some New York Giant players ordered a female UPI reporter from their dressing room, verbally abused her and pushed a male reporter who came to her aid. The male reporter was Greg Mosso, a reporter from radio station WHUR.
Cammy Clark, who works part-time for UPI and WRC-TV in Washington, and is a stringer for the Washington Post, said the incident occurred after the Giants lost to the Redskins, 23-21, Monday night at RFK Stadium. The action was a reversal of policy and precedent set the previous weekend, when the Giants, under threat of a lawsuit by USA Today, opened their locker room to three women reporters, including Julie Cart of The Los Angeles Times.
