Newport Beach : Intersection Closed After Camper Truck Hits Car
- Share via
A major Newport Beach intersection was partially closed for about an hour Thursday morning when a camper truck carrying an Arkansas family on vacation collided with a station wagon, spilling the truck’s load of diesel fuel. No one was seriously injured in the 9:30 a.m. accident.
According to Newport Beach police, the truck, driven by Wesley Stapel, 41, of Siloam Springs, Ark., apparently ran a red light at Bristol Street and Jamboree Road, striking a station wagon driven by Carol Cooper, 38, of Huntington Beach. Cooper was reported in good condition at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, where she was treated for a broken ankle and a concussion. No one in the Stapel family was injured.
Wesley Stapel told police he ran the light because he was looking for signs to Disneyland.
