UCI Men Win, Women Lose to UC San Diego
The UC Irvine men’s and women’s swim teams split a nonconference meet at UC San Diego Saturday as the outcome for both teams was decided in the final event.
The Anteater men (1-1) came from behind to take a 57-54 victory. Mauro Macchi, a junior from Italy, won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events.
The UCI women’s team lost in its first meet of the season, 59-52, despite Melanie Reed’s victory in the 50 free and second-place finish in the 100 free. The Anteater teams next compete Dec. 15 at Cal State Hayward.
