Joe Yukica, whose teams won or shared three Ivy League titles in eight years, was fired as Dartmouth College’s football coach.

Athletic Director Ted Leland said that Yukica will be reassigned within the college for the length of his contract, through the summer of 1987.

Despite his success in Ivy League play, Yukica, 54, had three straight losing seasons, including a 4-14-1 stretch in the last two years. His record at Dartmouth was 33-41-3, including an 0-20-1 mark against non-Ivy competition. He has a lifetime record of 108-87-3.

Yukica, an All-East tight end at Penn State in the early 1950s, turned around the University of New Hampshire football program in two years, then took over at Boston College in 1968. When he left 10 seasons later to become Dartmouth’s head coach, he was the Eagles’ winningest coach.
